Litlov is involved in editing Shiny New Books, a new online publication about books and reading.  When she asked me to write an article about diversity for it, I realized that my appreciation of these books has grown and changed over time.  I started out mostly curious, especially about how women in other places and cultures described themselves and their lives.  I am still curious, but I have begun to see new patterns.  Those patterns are what I discuss in my article.  Do check it out at the address above.
